Caraval
by Stephanie Garber
Scarlett Dragna just wants to escape her father and the island that they live on. A week away from her arranged wedding, her sister, Tella, and a sailor take her away to play in Caraval, the annual performance fueled by audience participation and magic.
I liked this a lot more than I expected to. I had heard mention of it so much and the cover is so cool that I put off reading it for a long time because I had expected to be disappointed. I was not disappointed. This was a fun, interesting story that kept me guessing at who certain people really were and what was real. There’s word of a sequel coming out next year, so I’ll be on the lookout for news of that.
