Tea Towel Embroidery

My best friend’s birthday is coming up, and I wanted to make her something. So, I wandered aimlessly around the craft store for probably too long wanting to make probably too many things before I decided to embroider something for her.

I used to do counted cross-stitch when I was younger, and it was a lot of fun. This is a bit like that, but also totally different, and I wasn’t entirely sure where to start. The tea towel obviously isn’t the same as the fabric used in counted cross-stitching. I also didn’t know how to use the pattern it came with.

I ended up drawing the image from the pattern onto the tea towel and stem-stitching over it. Probably not how that’s supposed to work, but who knows. I stitched the tower and took some liberties with the border. I should definitely hand wash it to remove the creases before I gift it, but I think I did a pretty good job.

If you’re more embroidery-savvy than I am, I’d appreciate any tips for future projects.
