Critique Partners

Writing groups are great and all, but critique partners are where the real specific feedback is. A partnership between two writers, critique partners exchange their writing regularly and provide useful feedback. They can be harder to find than just someone to bounce ideas off of though.

Critique partners need to be a good match for one another. They look more closely at each other’s writing than a writing group is able to, and need to understand each other’s story taste and writing style to be effective. They help each other throughout the entire writing process, so the relationship needs to be productive and supportive and the writers really need to trust one another’s advice and feedback.

If you find the right one, these can be great working relationships that help progress your writing in a much more personalized way than a general writing group would be able to.

Have you ever worked with a critique partner?
