The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games
by Suzanne Collins

The 12 districts of Panem must offer up a boy and a girl every year to enter the Hunger Games and fight to the death until only 1 survives while everyone watches the televised event.

I honestly don’t understand why the hunger games were arranged the way that they were, or why they’re called the hunger games. But ignoring all that, I liked this more than I expected to, but I also don’t plan to read the rest of the series. I expected this to be a lot like Battle Royale, and the basis of the competition is similar, but the story as a whole was pretty different.

Katniss lives her life just trying to survive and keep her sister safe. As much as she sucks at interpersonal relationships, she finds her drive to survive the games in her promise to her sister, and another contestant that reminds her of her sister. She learns to survive by trusting other people, and how to fight back by following, and changing, the rules.
