Vlad Taltos, an assassin in the House of the Jhereg, is offered a hefty pay for work that ends up being rather complicated.
This reminded me of a Sherlock Holmes mystery, but with magic and fictional creatures and new races, and also if Sherlock were an assassin in the mob hired to kill or be killed. There was a lot of information and intrigue, fighting and teleportation, crime solving and crime committing. I liked the combination of detective and assassin elements in this story and the variety of characters that made it all come together.
