I was gifted a wood burner, and it gave me an excuse to finally try some new wood crafts. When I went to the store to get a bit of wood to burn, I ended up getting a set of carving tools and carving blocks instead. With no real plan, other than to try out these new skills, I decided to carve a wooden bird and use the wood burner to add the details.
I didn’t expect this to be easy, necessarily, but it was a lot more difficult than I expected. I didn’t have a proper knife to carve out the basic shape, so I slowly carved away bits with the carving tools I had until it was bird-like. I also didn’t sand it down to have a smooth surface to burn.
For my first attempt, and learning as I went, I think it came out pretty cute.
