December Update | 2021

Hi friends. I’m still painting more regularly, but my reading and writing momentum has slowed. Here’s what I’ve been up to the past month.

In Writing

I was off to a strong start revising my manuscript, but I went a bit light on the descriptors in the last draft, and I hit a chapter that would benefit quite a bit from gaining a lot of descriptions. I’m still having a lot of fun with this story and helping it unfold, but constantly switching gears between reading, planning, and fulfilling the revisions it needs has got me at a slower pace than I’d like. Even so, it’s coming along as I chip away at it each day.

In Art

I’m keeping up with painting regularly. I did some portraits and animals last month. A couple of goofy ones. I’m trying out painting for longer on less days each week, rather than painting a little a few days a week. I think it might be more sustainable long term for me, at least while I’m still revising, but we’ll see. I’ve also been wanting to give wood burning another try.

In Reading

After breaking out of my reading slump, I promptly re-entered another. I only finished one book last month, and I didn’t even really finish it. I DNFed it. While it’s certainly not a bad book, it just wasn’t clicking with me, but I spent so much time trying to force it that I didn’t get to finish reading anything else. Hopefully this month will be better, because I have a bunch of books lined up to read that I am excited about.

In Other News

We got our first cord of firewood! It’s all stacked, kindling has been gathered, and we’ve been using our wood stove, which has been great because we already have snow on the ground here. As we’re entering deep holiday season, I’ve also been remembering the gingerbread castle I made last year, and wondering what ridiculous gingerbread structure I can make this year. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Stay warm.
