Graceling
Graceling Realm, book 1
by Kristin Cashore
Katsa, born with a Grace for killing, is a tool for her uncle, King Randa, until she meets Prince Po.
In the beginning, I was a little worried. Some of the setup gets a little cheesy, but in a way that made me laugh rather than roll my eyes. And some of the Graces felt a bit overpowered, until we learn more about them and the characters that possess them. Once the characters are established and the main plot begins, however, I was hooked.
The characters were interesting, powerful and flawed, often fighting against their natural abilities. The story was engaging, at the end of every chapter I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next. Although there are some moments that happen a bit abruptly, this was real page-turner with an interesting world and a rather intriguing plot.
I’d recommend this if you’re looking for a character focused YA fantasy that’s a little dark and has a little adventure and some romance.
