June Update | 2022

What a toasty spring we’ve been having. It isn’t even summer yet, but it feels like it.

Recently I’ve been reading a lot, seeing some friends I haven’t seen in ages, and thinking about my priorities and goals for the rest of the year. A lot has changed in my life over the past few years, personally, professionally, and the general state of the world. I’ve only recently had the time and capacity to process any of it. And now I’m finally feeling ready to get back to the bigger projects I set down while I was doing that.

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

Reading

I planned to read 12 books in May and I ended up reading 14. 10 of them were from my TBR and the other 4 were added impulsively. I didn’t realize I read that much, but wow that’s a lot. Here’s what I finished in May:

Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah
The Double Helix by James D. Watson
Red Sister by Mark Lawrence
The Library of the Dead by T.L. Huchu
Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan
The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman
A Crown of Swords by Robert Jordan
The Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan
Winter’s Heart by Robert Jordan
Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan
In the Labyrinth of Drakes by Marie Brennan
Within the Sanctuary of Wings by Marie Brennan
Turning Darkness Into Light by Marie Brennan

I linked the reviews I wrote that are out already and the rest will be published at various future dates. You don’t need 14 reviews from me in a single month, and I’m especially trying to space out reviews from the series I’ve been binging. I want to review each installment individually, but also I care about you.

Writing

I think about writing significantly more than I actually write. I feel like I’m approaching a sustainable routine that works for me personally without restricting what I do each day. Once I figure that out I think I’ll be much more comfortable devoting more time to writing. I’m on the path to finally finishing this story, but I’m not quite there yet. I’m ready to jump back in though.

Art

I haven’t done anything art related in a while. Similar to writing, I have some things I’d like to do, but I haven’t been in the headspace to do them. I’m hoping to get at least one craft project in this month and also start drawing more regularly again.

Other Things

My plant seeds are all sprouted, and I’ve put a lot of them in the garden plot outside. Some of the duplicate herbs I’ve planted in some buckets I had to create an indoor herb garden. I was also given a few house plants. So many plants! I’m doing my best to keep them all happy and healthy, figuring out what they all want and need. Hopefully we’ll have a thriving garden this summer.
