August Update | 2022

I can’t believe it’s August already! I’ve given up trying to get the outdoor garden started this year, but my indoor herb garden is doing well and our baby fig tree is growing its first fig. We learned how figs get pollinated and it is super weird. We had visits from a tree frog and a rather noisy otter.

I finished removing all the wallpaper upstairs, which I am very happy to be done with. Still lots of work to be done up there, but it should all be much less tedious than peeling that wallpaper. I crossed some big tasks off my to-do list, and I’ve had some lovely virtual and in person visits with friends I haven’t seen in far too long.

Writing

I started writing a little bit again. Finally ready to get back to revising that manuscript I took a break from a while ago. I’m still unsure of some things, but I’m never going to figure it out if I don’t jump back into the story and work it out as I go.

Reading

I only finished reading a few things from my TBR, but ended up reading a lot of things that I really enjoyed. Here’s everything I finished reading in July:

The Bone Orchard by Sara A. Mueller
A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow
House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones
Half a King by Joe Abercrombie

The Huntress by Kate Quinn
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick
The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner
The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Clockwork Boys, The Wonder Engine, and Minor Mage by T. Kingfisher

I finished a few series, started a few series, and switched up the genres a bit. Having a little sci-fi and finally finding historical fiction books that I enjoyed were fun additions to all the fantasy. I’m still sticking with fantasy, but I like sprinkling in other genres here and there to mix things up sometimes.

How was your July?
