Last week we looked for swords, now we’re looking for the sword’s counterpart, shields. I admit I don’t think about shields nearly as much as swords, but I tend toward characters with daggers and duel-wielded blades than the classic sword and shield combo. Surprisingly less common as a cover feature than a blade, here are five books with shields on their covers:
Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan Reads

Kings of the Wyld
by Nicholas Eames
A well-used shield, this one looks like it’s saved its wielder from more than a few scars.

Rat Queens
by Kurtis J. Wiebe
Only one of our leading ladies wields a shield, and you can see the backside of it on this cover.

Winter’s Heart
by Robert Jordan
Of all the weapons on all the covers of this long series, I was surprised to find that this seemed to be the only one with a shield.

King of Scars
by Leigh Bardugo
The other part of this crest is the golden shield at its center. Although this shield may not provide the best defense in its current state.

Chew
by John Layman
Not a typical shield, a police badge is designed to look like a shield.
What’s your favorite book with a shield on the cover?

I wonder how long it’s gonna take me to get to Winter’s Heart – I’m currently halfway through the Wheel of Time series and it’s already taken me all year to get this far. 😅

That’s still a lot of WoT in just 8 months! Those books are not short, I hope you’re enjoying them!

I took a little break after book #6 to read something else for a change, but I am enjoying them a lot!
