Reading Through a Slump | Sunday Synopsis

I’ve been feeling rather slumpy lately. Part of it is probably the recent arrival of holiday season, part of it is probably the gloomy weather we’ve been having here, and part of it is probably the number of disappointing or just okay reads I’ve been encountering lately. So last week I made it my goal to read my way out of the slump I could feel coming on. And for the most part, I think it worked. I’m not reading as consistently as I’d like, which is the next thing I want to work on. Having a reading routine that works for me is not something I’ve ever truly achieved, but it’s something I want.

Last Week I Finished Reading

xxxHolic, volumes 1 & 2
by CLAMP

After two volumes, I’m enjoying this series, but not feeling invested enough to pick up the third. A story about spirits, I had a good time with these volumes and I’m content with setting the series down here.

The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie
by Rachel Linden

I didn’t actually finish this, I DNFed at 26%

I’ve been anticipating this one, so I’m pretty bummed that it ended up being a disappointing read. I didn’t connect with the main character at all, so I wasn’t really sympathetic to her situation. It may be a good read for those who stuck it out, but this one ended up not being for me.

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy
Monk & Robot, book 2
by Becky Chambers

The sequel to A Psalm for the WIld-Built, this continues the journey of Mosscap and Dex to find out what humans need. It feels like the other half to the first book, we get to learn a bit more about the robots, and I enjoyed reading more of this story. I adore Mosscap.

Currently Reading

I’m currently in between books. I haven’t started a new one since I finished the ones listed above. However, I’ve got some big reading plans coming up that I’m excited about.
