The Fox and the Star
by Coralie Bickford-Smith
After a fox’s only friend, a star, disappear, it must search the dark forest alone for the missing companion.
From the designer who brought us the Penguin clothbound classics’ covers, this book has even more beautiful art. We see the close friendship between a fox and the star that guides it through the dark forest, and the fox’s reaction to the loss of that star. Adjusting to a new, dark forest when the search for the star proves fruitless, we experience the friendship, loss, and new life after that loss along with the fox. The story is interesting and subtle enough for children, but a sweet enough tale of life after loss that any age can appreciate.
