Skipping Christmas by John Grisham

Skipping Christmas
by John Grisham

With their only child away, Luther and Nora Krank decide to skip Christmas and go on a cruise, causing many unexpected consequences.

Luther and Nora Krank, a well-off suburban couple finally have the chance to skip all the stress of the holiday when their only child leaves for Peru. Realizing all the money they felt was wasted on Christmas expectations and the competitive nature of the people in their neighborhood related to decorations and parties and Christmas cards. It’s a cynical look at the consumerism that comes out during the holidays and how needless, yet expected, it all is.

A comical take on how odd it’s viewed to not want all the holiday fuss, this book also shows how willing people are to step up and help one another when they need it most. A fun read and not quite what I had expected, I enjoyed this book enough that I intend to watch the movie adaptation Christmas with the Kranks as we get closer to Christmas.
