A Christmas Story
by Jean Shepherd
Ralphie recounts some specific memories of Christmas as a child in a small town with his family.
While I’ve seen the movie version in bits and pieces over the years, this was a fun story to finally experience from start to finish. It covers a variety of seemingly small events in a young boy’s life around Christmas time. A bit of a montage, all of these individual stories work together to paint a picture of this small town family’s lives around the holidays.
A fun, funny, and wholesome read, I enjoyed this story. From disappointments to exciting fulfillments of wishes, there’s a wonderful range of things going on in this book and they all fit together. A simple, yet well-written Christmas book. Maybe some day I’ll watch the movie all at once.
