A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

A Christmas Carol
by Charles Dickens

Ebenezer Scrooge receives warnings from certain Christmas spirits to change his unpleasant ways.

Between the play I’ve seen many times and the Muppet film version I’ve seen even more times, this is a Christmas classic that I’ve always enjoyed. Feeling like I knew the story so well having grown up with live versions of it, I’m so glad I finally read the original book.

A grumpy man gets scared straight by spirits and realizes that it won’t hurt to be a bit kinder to the people around him. It’s a little dark, a little funny, heartwarming and timeless. Even knowing the story so well, experiencing it through Dickens writing was such a delight. For not a very long story, we get the full range of who Scrooge is, was, and will be, as well as how others view him.

Definitely recommend this, whether or not you already know the story.
