I’ve never been one to read an author’s entire catalogue. Oftentimes there’s a particular work I love and the rest tend to not capture the same magic. Instead, I love reading things from authors whose works I’ve never read before. Here are five new-to-me authors that I read this year. For most of them, I read their debut novels.
Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan Reads
Sarah Penner – Released last year, her debut The Lost Apothecary is a gripping dual timeline story about women doing some highly questionable things to save themselves from the men in their lives. I’m looking forward to reading her next novel scheduled to release in March
Sara A. Mueller – Her debut The Bone Orchard released this year, and I loved reading it. A gothic fantasy mystery, I was so engrossed in the world and uncovering the past of our complex main character, Charm
Mark Lawrence – I’m currently reading two of his series and loving them both. After reading his debut Prince of Thorns last year I picked up Red Queen, which is one of my favorite reads of the year. He’s one of the few authors I really do want to pick up everything he’s written so far
T. Kingfisher – After reading Nettle & Bone, then participating in a T. Kingfisher readathon, I’ve read a number of her books this year, and I loved each of them. She has such a humor to her writing that works well with some of the darker things she tends to write
Anne Perry – I didn’t love most of the Christmas books I read this month, but I adored both Anne Perry books I picked up. Her characters are interesting and her writing is so immersive. Discovering this author was easily the best thing about reading so many holiday stories and I’m excited to try her non-holiday reads in the future

I need to read T. Kingfisher, I’ve heard so many good things!

A lot of people seem to have discovered her this year. I haven’t read her horror or children’s books yet, but all of her fantasy books are wonderful
