19 Feb 2023 | Sunday Synopsis

Last week was vacation week, so we checked out some new-to-us local bookstores and cafés. One of them was a converted mill, and one of them had the most delicious chocolates. It was a fun week and we got a little break from the freezing cold snowy weather, which made it even nicer for going out.

Last Week I Finished Reading

A Storm of Swords
A Song of Ice and Fire, book 3
by George R.R. Martin

I didn’t like the second book as much as the first one, but this one got me back on board with everything. I liked more of the point of view charcters this time around, and I think it’s really interesting how most of them have no idea what’s actually happening with the others, just what news has managed to make it to them. There’s more sense of magic now with the wolves, and there’s so much going on in the world.

King of Thorns
Broken Empire, book 2
by Mark Lawrence

Both books in this series so far have taken me a little getting into at the beginning, but once things get going I really enjoy them. Although I didn’t care quite as much for the side characters in this one, I liked seeing What Jorg has been up to since the last book ended and there are a lot of things added to the plot and the world. Looking forward to seeing how this trilogy concludes.

Kings of the Wyld
The Band, book 1
by Nicholas Eames

I really took my time reading this book, but I had so much fun with it. Plenty of action delivered in a fun, lighthearted way. It’s nice to see older characters still being the heroes when it matters, even if they’re not in the best shape anymore.

Currently Reading

Bloody Rose
The Band, book 2
by Nicholas Eames

The sequel to Kings of the Wyld. I’m not too far into this yet, but it has the same tone as the first book with some familiar characters, although I’m liking that it’s told from the perspective of an entirely new charcter. I’m mostly in the setup part right now, and there are some references to things that happened in the first book, but I’m looking forward to the adventure beginning because I have no idea where this one’s going to go yet.
